SOUTH SALT LAKE, Utah, Nov. 25, 2019 (Gephardt Daily) — Officials have identified a 48-year-old man who died after the motorcycle he was driving crashed into a minivan that was stopped for a pedestrian on State Street Saturday evening.

The deceased is Danny Frank Jones, from West Bountiful, South Salt Lake Police Department executive officer Gary Keller said Monday afternoon.

SSLPD Lt. Gregg Carlson told Gephardt Daily the fatal crash occurred at about 6:30 p.m. as a woman was crossing State Street at 3053 South.

Carlson said the area is fairly dark, and the driver of a northbound minivan hit the brakes hard upon realizing that a pedestrian was in the crosswalk.

The motorcycle, which was following behind, crashed into the back of the minivan.

Carlson said the motorcyclist was not wearing a helmet and died either at the hospital or en route in the ambulance. No one else was injured in the crash.

The investigation is ongoing and officials are checking for any surveillance video in the area that might show the crash.

Carlson said there is no indication of impaired driving.
