Update: Officials ID man who died at East Canyon Reservoir

MORGAN, Utah, June 17, 2019 (Gephardt Daily) — Officials have identified a 25-year-old man who died at East Canyon State Park Sunday afternoon.

The deceased is Shervin Rayeneh, from Salt Lake County, Utah Division of Parks and Recreation officials said in a news release.

Rayeneh was boating on East Canyon Reservoir with friends and family when he and two friends left the boat to swim nearby at approximately 3 p.m., the news release said.

“Shortly after entering the water, Rayeneh began to struggle and turned to return to the boat when he went under the water and did not surface,” the news release said.

Passersby were flagged down to call 911. They assisted with a search of the area before a Utah State Park ranger responded to the area to help, officials said.

Search and Rescue teams from Weber County, Summit County and Morgan County were called to assist. Crews used side-scan sonar and an underwater remote operated vehicle (ROV) to find Rayeneh.

Search teams located Rayeneh at approximately 10:08 p.m. Sunday, the news release said. With the aid of the ROV, the crew was able to bring his body to the surface to awaiting dive team members.

“The Utah Division of Parks and Recreation extends our condolences to the family and friends impacted by this incident,” the news release said.
