Update: Officials ID motorcyclist killed in collision on 10600 South in Sandy

SANDY, Utah, July 25, 2018 (Gephardt Daily) — A motorcyclist who was killed late Tuesday night when his bike collided with a car at 80 E. 10600 South has been identified.

Officials said the deceased is Richard Christensen, 48, from Sandy.

Sandy Police Department Sgt. Jason Nielson said the crash occurred at about 11 p.m. as a Ford Fiesta heading west on 10600 South turned to go into the shopping area.

The Fiesta turned in front of the eastbound motorcycle, which crashed into the car’s passenger-side door frame.

The motorcyclist, later identified as Christensen, was transported to the hospital, where he was pronounced deceased.

Nielson said the driver of the car is cooperating with officials and there was no sign of impairment.

The Crash Analysis Reconstruction Team was called to the scene to assist with the investigation, and the road was closed until approximately 3 a.m.
