DUCHESNE, Utah, April 21, 2019 (Gephardt Daily) — Authorities have identified a Spanish Fork man who drowned while fishing with a friend at Fred Hayes State Park at Starvation Reservoir on Thursday afternoon, officials said.

The deceased is Peter Tomadakis, 79, according to Utah Division of Parks and Recreation officials.

The man was shore fishing at the reservoir just northwest of the town of Duchesne with a friend, according to a news release released Thursday evening.

“At approximately 3:40 p.m., while the two were walking along the shore near the northwest side of the Freedom Bridge, the victim slipped and fell,” the news release said. “He then rolled several feet down the bank and into the water.”

The fishing companion was unable to assist the victim and called 911 for help. Members of the Duchesne County Sheriff’s Office responded to the scene, along with a Utah State Parks ranger.

First responders recovered Tomadakis. He was pronounced dead at the scene, the news release said.

“The Utah Division of Parks and Recreation extends our condolences to the friends and family impacted by this incident,” the news release went on.
