CORINNE, Utah, Jan. 2, 2018 (Gephardt Daily) — Authorities have identified two cousins who died after a dirt bike collision in the small city of Corinne in Box Elder County Sunday night.

The deceased are Caden Ellertson, 14, and Wyatt Ellertson, 15, Box Elder County Sheriff’s officials said in a statement. The latter was pronounced dead at the scene of the incident and the former was stabilized and flown to Primary Children’s Hospital in Salt Lake City but died shortly after arrival. The two were driving the dirt bikes, and both were wearing helmets.

A 16-year-old male, a passenger on one of the bikes, was flown to Ogden Regional Hospital but was later transferred to the University of Utah Hospital in Salt Lake City. He was listed in stable condition when he left Ogden Regional. No further update on his condition has been provided.

The incident occurred on a farm access road shortly before 9 p.m., officials said.

“The three juveniles were riding on a dirt road between two cornfields,” the news release said. “The two motorcycles are Kawasaki model KX250 dirt bikes. Neither motorcycle is equipped with lighting.”

All three riders were ejected.

There is no evidence of impairment by either driver, the sheriff’s office said.

The parents and grandparents of the boys were at the scene, the news release said.

Officials initially said the motorcycles collided head-on or near head-on, but that was later amended to state they glanced off each other at impact.

Investigators believe both dirt bikes were traveling somewhere between 30 and 40 mph at the time they collided.

More information will be released when the investigation is completed, and Gephardt Daily will update this story at that time.
