FARR WEST, Utah, Sept. 13, 2018 (Gephardt Daily) — A 33-year-old Ogden man has died after being critically injured in a multi-vehicle crash on northbound Interstate 15 Tuesday afternoon.
The Utah Highway Patrol said in a news release the deceased is Casey T. Davenport.
The collision occurred at about 4 p.m. near milepost 349 in Farr West, and initially left Davenport and a woman in critical condition. She is now in stable condition and is expected to recover.
According to a Utah Highway Patrol news release, traffic was slowing and stopped in the No. 3 lane and the right emergency lane on northbound I-15.
A vehicle swerved from the No. 3 lane into the No. 2 lane to avoid the stopped traffic and was hit by a semi that was traveling in the No. 2 lane, the release states.
The semi, which was hauling a flat-bed trailer, then hit several other cars that were stopped in the No. 3 and emergency lanes.
The driver of the vehicle that made initial contact with the semi, later identified as Davenport, wasn’t properly wearing a seat belt, the release says. Davenport was ejected and was then hit by another vehicle. He was transported to McKay-Dee Hospital in Ogden in critical condition, where he subsequently passed away.
A female driver who was in another vehicle involved in the crash also was transported to the hospital in critical condition, initially.
Other people were injured, but none of those injuries was life-threatening.
Most of the roadway was closed for several hours after the crash while troopers investigated the crash.
