RIGGINS, Idaho, August 10, 2019 (Gephardt Daily) — A large mudslide blocking U.S. Highway 95 north of Riggins is slowly being cleared, and one lane has been opened Saturday.

On Saturday night, the Idaho County Sheriff’s Office posted on Facebook that Highway 95 now has one lane open, with flaggers and a pilot car. Officials are asking drivers to exercise caution in the area.

The sheriff’s office also said it isn’t known how long the highway will be closed.

“If you need road information please dial 5-1-1 or you can visit the Idaho Transportation Department website or the ID 511 app, they will have the most updated information,” ICSO posted on Facebook on Saturday morning. “Our dispatch center is being flooded with calls this morning regarding the closure. We ask that you check here or with 5-1-1 for updates if you are able to do so.”

The Idaho State Police reported the mudslide Friday night, saying the blockage extended from mileposts 197 to 205. Roadblocks had been set up at mileposts 161 and 234 where traffic was being turned around.

On Saturday, the Idaho County Sheriff’s Office said on Facebook, “Hwy 95 milepost 200 to 201 area is closed.”
