OREM, Utah, Aug. 27, 2019 (Gephardt Daily) — Four people were taken into custody Tuesday night after Orem police and SWAT personnel converged on the Promenade Place Apartments seeking suspects in an earlier exchange of gunfire.

Orem Police Lt. Trent Colledge said several calls were received at about 4:30 p.m. reporting the sound of gunshots outside the apartment complex at 867 S. Geneva Road.

Responding officers found shell casings in the area. As they began collecting evidence and surveillance video, officers were able to narrow their search for a suspect or suspects to an apartment in the complex.

He said the camera footage of the afternoon incident shows two groups of people arguing and then exchanging gunshots.

“We have no indication that anyone was injured,” he told Gephardt Daily. “The other group fled and we’re still in the process of locating them.”

Once the police had determined that one or more suspects were in a specific apartment at Promenade Place, SWAT officers were called in and, at about 9:45 p.m., they began evacuating the first floor of the apartment complex.

Colledge said four people were detained and are being interviewed by detectives. He said the two who are considered suspects are both male. Two women also were seen being escorted from the building in handcuffs.

Promenade Place has several Utah Valley University students living there, but it is not exclusively student housing, Colledge said.

Gephardt Daily will update this developing story as more information becomes available.
