SALT LAKE CITY, Utah, Oct. 8, 2018 (Gephardt Daily) — Police have identified an 18-year-old man who died after a shooting in Salt Lake City’s Marmalade District in the early hours of Saturday morning.

The deceased has been identified as Raul Castillo Rivera, the Salt Lake City Police Department said in a news release Monday.

SLCPD Lt. Dave Cracroft told Gephardt Daily police were called to the area east of 200 W. 600 North at approximately 12:40 a.m. on multiple reports of shots fired.

Officers were unable to locate a scene at that time, the news release said. A short time later, officials were called by Bountiful Police Department about a man at Lakeview Hospital that had been shot near the Utah State Capitol.

Shortly after Bountiful PD reported that the man, later identified as Rivera, had died.

Officers spoke again with complainants from the shots fired calls and were able to locate a scene in a makeshift parking area near 640 N. Darwin Street.

Once there, police found numerous shell casings and possible other evidence, including footprints and tire tracks.

The investigation is ongoing, SLCPD said in the news release.
