WASATCH COUNTY, Utah, March 7, 2019 (Gephardt Daily) — Officials have identified two men who died in a crash on U.S. Highway 40 east of Strawberry Reservoir Wednesday afternoon.
The two deceased men were travelling in the same vehicle, a green Ford Expedition.
The deceased driver has been identified as Esteban Rivas-Dimas, age unknown, from Roosevelt, Utah Highway Patrol officials said. The deceased left rear passenger is Pascual Navarro, age unknown, from Mexico.
The accident, near mile marker 52, happened at about 3:15 p.m., according to a statement from the Utah Department of Public Safety.
The Ford Expedition and a Utah Department of Transportation snow plow collided.
“SR-40 in the area of the crash was snowy and icy,” a Department of Public Safety account says. “The green Ford Expedition was eastbound on SR-40 when the driver lost control of the vehicle. It slid sideways into the westbound lanes of travel. The driver side of the Expedition impacted with the front plow portion of a westbound UDOT snow plow.
“The driver and rear seat driver side passenger of the Expedition were both killed in the impact. The two occupants in the front passenger side and rear passenger side were transported to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries. The driver of the snow plow was transported to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
“It appears that speed on the snowy roads and equipment issues were contributing factors. The front tires of the Expedition were sufficient, however the rear tires were largely bald and in an unsafe condition.”
