Update: Police ID 26-year-old man shot, killed in Salt Lake City

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah, Jan. 13, 2019 (Gephardt Daily) — Officials have identified a 26-year-old man who was shot and killed Saturday night near 400 North Star Crest Drive in Salt Lake City.

The deceased has been identified as Mason Hunt, the Salt Lake City Police Department tweeted Sunday afternoon.

The tweet added: “SLCPD is looking for a car stolen after the homicide. Silver 2007 Infiniti M35 UT plate W007VZ.”

Dispatchers first received a call of “shots fired” shortly after 8 p.m., officials said Saturday evening.

When officers arrived they found a man, later identified as Hunt, in critical condition.

The wounded man was rushed by ground ambulance to the Intermountain Medical Center in Murray, but passed away from his injuries a short while later.

Emergency dispatchers put out an attempt to locate request (ATL) informing patrol officers to keep an eye out for possible armed suspects last seen driving a 2007 Infiniti close to the shooting site.

Police are asking anyone who has any information about the incident or the stolen car to call SLCPD at 801-799-3000.

I am deeply disappointed and saddened of the lack of coverage and attention given to the story of the young 26-year-old man who was killed trying to defend his friend… More coverage has been given to the killers than anything about this young man. Mason Hunt was one of the finest individuals I know, a former Marine and friend to so many. It is tragic that someone who served our country for four years is not given any recognition or has even been described other than being 26 and dead. While pictures of these hideous individuals who did this are plastered all over the media, I’ve yet to see a picture of my friend, shame on you all.
