MAGNA, Utah, Nov. 13, 2018 (Gephardt Daily) — Officials have identified a man who died in a one-car crash in Magna Monday morning after his car slammed into a metal pole and burst into flames.

Unified Police Department tweeted Tuesday morning the deceased is Weston Gillen, 26, of Riverton.

“Our deepest sympathy to his family and friends,” the tweet said.

Unified Police Department officials said the incident occurred at 4100 South and Highway 111, which is 8400 West, at approximately 10 a.m.

Officials said a witness reported a car driven by Gillen slammed into a metal pole that holds a traffic light at a high rate of speed. The vehicle then burst into flames.

No other vehicles were involved in the incident.

The cause of the crash is under investigation. It’s not known at this stage whether there were contributing factors other than speed, such as impairment or distraction.

Highway 111 was closed in both directions in that area while the crash was investigated.

Gephardt Daily will have more on this developing story as information is made available.
