SALT LAKE CITY, Utah, Feb. 4, 2019 (Gephardt Daily) — Officials have identified a suspect after the Salt Lake City Justice Courts were burglarized over the weekend.

The Salt Lake City Police Department tweeted Monday afternoon it is asking for the public’s help in locating Benjamin Bandfield, 26, who was captured in a surveillance photo.

“Benjamin is #wanted for the #burglary of the SLC Justice Court,” the tweet said. “Anyone with information is asked to call SLCPD @ 801-799-3000.”

Salt Lake City police officials said the courts, at 333 S. 200 East, were burglarized and ransacked sometime between Friday night and Monday morning. Security officers discovered the damage when they came to work Monday.

It’s not clear yet how the suspect gained access to the building, but police have confirmed a number of ceiling tiles were damaged. Furniture was also damaged and vending machine overturned, officials said. The damage was estimated at approximately $5,000. The suspect never made it to the clerical area where the sensitive files are kept.

Court proceedings resumed by 10 a.m.

Gephardt Daily will have more on this developing story as information is made available.
