PROVO, Utah, March 16, 2017 (Gephardt Daily) — Police have arrested the prime suspect and three other people after a fatal shooting Monday night in Provo.
Jesse Gourdin, 21, was taken into custody without incident by Farmington Police Department Thursday morning, according to a news release issued by the Provo Police Department.
The statement said the victim, Gustavo Ramirez, 24, was shot once at a residence near 100 N. 400 West in Provo. Ramirez was driven to an area hospital by a woman, and subsequently died.
Additional information released Thursday morning by Provo Police stated three suspects connected to the homicide investigation were taken into custody at about 6:30 p.m. Wednesday. Provo officers and investigators apprehended Brayden Marshall, 18, Maria Hernandez, 18, and Jerry Hawley, 34, with assistance from the Utah County Major Crimes Task Force and the Utah County Special Enforcement Team and others.
When Marshall was apprehended, police said, he had a 9 mm handgun in his possession. Investigators believe Marshall, Hernandez, and Hawley accompanied Gourdin to Ramirez’ house to commit an armed robbery.
“Detectives believe Hernandez told the men there was money in the house, Marshall supplied the gun to Gourdin, and Hawley drove them all there to commit robbery,” the news release said. “Detectives booked Hernandez, Thomas, and Marshall for involvement in an armed robbery that resulted in the death of Gustavo Ramirez.”
During the investigation, detectives conducted an interview with Ricky Jaynes, 18. He was found in possession of drugs, drug paraphernalia, and a .40 caliber handgun. Jaynes was booked for weapons charges and drug charges, but not for crimes related to the homicide.
