SALT LAKE COUNTY, Utah, Dec. 30, 2024 (Gephardt Daily) — Search and rescue teams with the Salt Lake County Sheriff’s Office have temporarily suspended their search for an overdue hiker in the Porter Fork area.

According to a Monday night press release, deteriorating weather conditions forced a pause in rescue efforts for the 38-year-old male hiker, who was first reported missing Sunday.

“Search and Rescue teams were dispatched, and a thorough search of the area began. Deteriorating weather conditions suspended Sunday evening’s search. Efforts resumed Monday as soon as conditions allowed, and continued throughout the day, until worsening conditions forced another pause. Search and Rescue operations will resume tomorrow,” according to the SLCo Sheriff’s Office.

“Our Search and Rescue teams are working tirelessly to locate the individual,” said Sheriff Rosie Rivera. “We remain hopeful and are doing everything in our power to bring him home safely.”

Search efforts are expected to resume Tuesday morning.

The public is being asked to avoid the Porter Fork area.

Gephardt Daily will update the story as more information becomes available.
