MIDVALE, Utah, June 26, 2019 (Gephardt Daily) — A woman has died and her boyfriend has been jailed on suspicion of murder after a Midvale shooting that was initially reported as an attempted suicide.

Officers responded just after 10 p.m. Tuesday, and found the victim, 27-year-old Shaina Bigby, in extremely critical condition. She was placed on life support, and has died of her injuries.

Booked into the Salt Lake County Jail is Cameron Lundgren, 40. He faces charges of murder and felony discharge of a firearm.

The incident occurred in the area of 199 W. 8600 South, Unified Police Department Sgt. Melody Gray told Gephardt Daily. It was initially reported as an attempted suicide, Gray said.

“Statements made did not match the evidence at the scene,” the follow-up news release said. “Unified Police Violent Crimes Unit responded and began an investigation. This investigation revealed a domestic dispute occurred between the victim and her boyfriend, prior to her being shot.”

A weapon was found in the room where Bigby was located, and police obtained a search warrant to enter the home. Further interviews were conducted and investigators looked at forensic ballistics.

The motive for the shooting is under investigation.

Gephardt Daily will have more on this developing story as information is made available.
