ST. GEORGE, Utah, Oct. 24, 2017 (Gephardt Daily) — A man is in custody Tuesday night, suspected of having entered two local residences without permission earlier in the day and assaulting a woman at one of the homes.

Jaime Santos Torres was identified as a potential suspect, St. George Police stated in a news release on Facebook.

Officers later made contact with Torres and the suspect vehicle near a construction site near Stone Cliffs. Torres matched the physical and clothing description of the suspect reported by witnesses, the release says.

Torres was taken into custody and was charged with assault, a class B misdemeanor;  and burglary of a dwelling, a third-degree felony.

The first incident was a burglary call, to which police were dispatched shortly after noon.

Upon arriving, the officers learned that a Hispanic male in his 20s had gone into the home and entered the room of a 19-year-old woman who had just stepped out of the shower.

According to the police Facebook post, the man closed the door and approached the woman, asking if she was alone. She said no, and started to yell for her roommate.

When the man moved as though he wanted to cover her mouth, the victim was afraid he would assault her, so she kept yelling, and the man ran out of the house.

Surveillance video showed the suspect leaving the scene in a red Ford F-150.

At 12:46 p.m., a similar incident, with a matching suspect description, was reported in Washington City. Torres faces additional charges in that incident.
