WEST VALLEY CITY, Utah, Feb. 3, 2019 (Gephardt Daily) — A suspect has been taken into custody in the aftermath of a Sunday morning shooting in West Valley City which left a man in critical condition.

A probable cause statement from the 3rd District Court of Salt Lake County said Jason Dean Hare, 41, is facing charges of second-degree felony possession of a dangerous weapon by a restricted person, second-degree felony aggravated assault resulting in serious bodily injury, and class B misdemeanor false information to law enforcement. He was booked into Salt Lake County Jail with his bail set at $100,000.

West Valley City officers responded to a gunshot call in the area of 6349 W. Meander Ave. at approximately 1:48 a.m.

The 38-year-old victim was found with multiple gunshot wounds and he was transported Intermountain Medical Center in Murray where he underwent surgery.

“Multiple people were at the scene and they were all interviewed,” the probable cause statement said. “Witnesses implicated the arrested party (A/P), Jason Hare, as the one who was arguing with the victim right before the shooting. A/P also has blood spatter on his pants, consistent with being in close proximity to a shooting victim.”

Hare was interviewed and he denied shooting the victim.

The suspect provided an incorrect last name and date of birth “and he said that he did that on purpose because he was scared of his warrants.”

Hare is Category I restricted due to an aggravated assault felony conviction, the probable cause statement said.

Officials said a gun has yet to be located, though casings were found at the scene.
