“Henry Chavez, Jr., 28, was fatally shot after officers had located a stolen vehicle that had previously fled from officers with the Salt Lake City Police Department,” according to a statement by Taylorsville PD.

The shooting happened around 10:15 p.m. in a business parking lot near 3900 S. 300 West.

“Officers had spotted the vehicle near 4500 South and 900 West and attempted to make contact with the two occupants, a man and woman, after they pulled into the parking area,” the statement said.

“During the encounter, shots were fired. Chavez was declared dead at the scene, and the woman was taken into custody.”

The Officer Involved Critical Incident Protocol was followed, and the Unified Police Department Protocol team has taken over investigation.
