SALT LAKE CITY, Utah, Aug. 1, 2018 (Gephardt Daily) — The Utah Department of Transportation is advising drivers to plan ahead for an additional overnight closure on westbound I-80 in Parleys Canyon Wednesday night.

Westbound I-80 is scheduled to close from Wednesday at 8 p.m. to Thursday at 6 a.m. between Jeremy Ranch, exit 141, and Lambs Canyon, exit 137, according to a news release from UDOT.

Drivers should use I-84 through Weber Canyon, or U.S. 40 and U.S. 189 through Provo Canyon as alternate routes, the news release said. This closure could add up to 90 minutes for drivers planning travel between Salt Lake City and Park City. UDOT also reminds trucks to use the designated alternate routes and avoid local roads.

“This additional closure will allow crews to finish placing beams over the westbound lanes of I-80,” the news release said. “The placement of these beams last night took longer than anticipated, requiring an additional night to complete the work.”

The eastbound I-80 closure that was previously scheduled to begin Wednesday night has been postponed until Thursday night. Eastbound I-80 is now scheduled to close from Thursday at 8 p.m. to Friday at 6 a.m.

Crews are placing beams for a new wildlife overpass, which will reduce collisions and help keep drivers as well as area wildlife safe.
