UTAH COUNTY, Utah, Dec. 15, 2024 (Gephardt Daily) — The Utah Highway Patrol has released updated information on Saturday’s fatal crash on State Route 6 in Utah County.
According to a UHP post on the Department of Public Safety website, troopers responded to the deadly accident at mile marker 184 near Diamond Fork Road at 2:16 p.m.
The UHP said the crash happened during winter conditions when the driver of a black KIA Soul “lost control of the vehicle, spinning into westbound lanes.
“A white Kia Sportage traveling westbound in lane one struck the Kia Soul pushing it into lane two of the westbound lanes.
A third Kia, “a white Telluride traveling in lane two of the westbound lanes struck the Kia Soul head-on,” the UHP post said.
“During the impact of the second crash, the backseat passenger of the Soul, who was unrestrained, was ejected from the vehicle and pronounced deceased on scene.”
“The driver and front seat passenger of the Soul sustained injuries and were both transported to a local hospital via ambulance.”
Earlier statements by the UHP made to Gephardt Daily indicated two of the crash victims were in critical condition. One required extricated from the vehicle.
A medical helicopter dispatched to the accident site was unable to land due to high winds, the UHP told Gephardt Daily.
“Multiple occupants of the Sportage had minor injuries and were transported by ambulance,” the UHP added in the evening update.
“The two occupants of the Telluride sustained minor injuries and neither were transported,” the UHP statement concluded.
