SALT LAKE CITY, Utah, June 1, 2016 (Gephardt Daily) — A teenage driver suffered critical injuries Wednesday afternoon when his car collided with a UTA bus in Salt Lake City.

Salt Lake City Police Lt. Martin Kaufmann said the accident happened at about 5:40 p.m. at 1200 N. Redwood Road.

“A vehicle that was traveling south on Redwood attempted to change lanes and did not see the bus,” Kaufmann said.

“He collided at a fairly high rate of speed, and sustained critical injuries, but they are not life-threatening.”

Kaufmann said the driver, a 16-year-old male, had to be extricated, and was taken by ambulance to the hospital.

The accident is under investigation, and officials are unsure if excessive speed or distracted driving are factors in the accident.
