MIDVALE, Utah, Oct. 23, 2018 (Gephardt Daily) — The Utah Transit Authority has released the name of the woman who died after being struck Monday by a TRAX train.

The victim was Marta Young, 66, of Midvale.

The incident occurred at approximately 4:30 p.m. in the area of 5900 South and 300 West. UTA spokesman Carl Arky said on Monday that it is believed the woman died on impact with the train.

Arky said the train was at a crossing, not a station, and the crossing arms were down, lights were flashing, and bells were sounding.

The woman — since identified as Young — walked in front of the train, Arky said. The investigation is ongoing, but it appears Young was distracted and unaware of the train, Arky said late Monday.

Arky said the train had just left a station and would have been traveling at a high rate of speed. He added that the next station is a few blocks away.

There were people on the train but nobody else was injured.
