SALT LAKE CITY, Jan. 28, 2017 (Gephardt Daily) — Utah Transit Authority tweeted at 7:10 p.m. Saturday that TRAX has resumed regular service and the bus bridge has ended.

Service had been interrupted by power outages believed to have been caused by an unexpected power surge that damaged overhead catenary wires.

Shortly before 8 p.m. Friday, UTA tweeted that the outages had brought trains on all three TRAX lines to a stop.

No injuries were reported by people on the trains, and according to UTA officials, the problem was not a hazard for the public because the power for the system automatically shuts off when there is an incident.

The power surge caused failures in two spots, 350 S. Main St. and 150 South and 400 West, Salt Lake City.

“UTA crews expect to be working on the problem throughout a good part of the day Saturday,” said a statement released Saturday morning by UTA spokesman Remi Barron.
