SALT LAKE CITY, Utah, July 29, 2021 (Gephardt Daily) — Utah Transit Authority announced Thursday it will be replacing 20-year-old rails embedded in the road curves on 500 South and South Campus Drive next month.

“Construction will necessitate road closures on 500 South as well as a bus bridge on the TRAX Red Line,” said a news release from UTA. “TRAX riders should expect delays, and motorists and residents in the area are advised to use alternate routes when possible.”

TRAX Red Line riders should expect a bus bridge from 900 East to University Medical Center Station from Aug. 12 to Aug. 22, with potential delays of 15-30 minutes.

Residents and businesses should expect day and night noise, dust, vibration and nighttime lighting during work activities from Aug. 4 to Aug. 9. Barriers will be used to reduce noise.

In addition, motorists should expect delays from Aug. 4 to Aug. 18.

500 South westbound:

  • No westbound travel from Guardsman Way to 1500 East.
  • Alternative westbound routes are South Campus Drive to 400 South and Guardsman Way to East Sunnyside Avenue and 800 South.

 500 South eastbound:

  • Narrowing to two lanes of traffic from 1200 East to Guardsman Way.
