MIDVALE, Utah, Sept. 28, 2018 (Gephardt Daily) — Utah Transit Authority wants commuters to be aware that construction work will be performed this Saturday and Sunday on a rail bridge that spans 7200 South east of 700 West in Midvale.

A bus bridge will be in place. The closure of the rail bridge will only affect the TRAX Red Line.

A news release from UTA spokesman Carl Arky says the construction is required because of the Utah Department of Transportation road-widening project at 7200 South and Interstate 15.

“The bridge will be closed to TRAX trains on select weekends during this period of construction, beginning this weekend (Saturday, September 29-Sunday, September 30),” the news release states. “As many as a dozen weekend closures may be necessary until construction is complete.”

Bus bridges will transport riders between the Historic Gardner, Bingham Junction and Fashion Place West stations.

UTA employees will man all three stations to help direct riders and assist with bus bridge connections.

“Depending on weather and other conditions, the closure schedule for the rest of this calendar year includes Oct. 13-14, Oct. 27-28, Nov. 3-4 and Nov. 17-18,”  the release says.

Dates for 2019 are still being determined.

UTA said the weekend closures for the needed construction work were scheduled to minimize the impact on riders.

Passengers who have questions or concerns can contact UTA on Facebook, Twitter, or call customer service at 801-RIDE-UTA.

Deaf and hearing impaired passengers with access to teletypewriters or computers equipped with TTY should dial 711 and give the relay operator UTA’s customer service number, 801-743-3882.
