UTAH, Dec. 14, 2024 (Gephardt Daily) — The Utah Avalanche Center has issued a warning for northern Utah and southeastern Idaho Idaho this weekend due to dangerous conditions.
“Heavy snowfall and drifting caused by strong winds will lead to dangerous avalanche conditions in the mountains of northern Utah and southeastern Idaho this weekend,” the statement says.
The warning will be in effect through 6 a.m. Monday, the release says.
The warning applies to:
- The Wasatch Range
- The Bear River Range
- The Western Uintah Mountains
Dangerous avalanche conditions are expected to develop on many slopes, the statement says. Avalanches are likely to be triggered by anyone traveling on or below slopes steeper than 30 degrees, and may be triggered from a distance or from below.
The Utah Avalanche center advises people to avoid traveling on or underneath steep, north-facing terrain at mid and upper elevations in the backcountry. Travelers should carry and know how to use avalanche rescue equipment, the statement says.
