UTAH COUNTY, Utah, Feb. 17, 2019 (Gephardt Daily) — A Utah County man was arrested after he allegedly assaulted a juvenile, then fled up Payson Canyon to avoid police.

A probable cause statement from Utah County said Nicolas Jon Oram, 40, is facing charges of first-degree felony object rape, second-degree felony sexual exploitation of a minor and second-degree felony forcible sexual abuse.

The probable cause statement said officers responded to a sexual assault of a female juvenile, allegedly by Oram, at an address in Payson City.

Oram was believed by the victim to be a trusted adult and father to her friend, the statement said.

“It was disclosed that Nicolas had undressed the victim while she lay asleep,” the statement said. “It was observed that the victim became aware when she was awoken with the flash of a phone’s camera.”

The victim then allegedly found that her shirt and bra had been lifted up and Oram was taking pictures of her. Oram also sexually assaulted the girl during the incident, causing her to cry, the probable cause statement said.

The reported photographs were observed by two witnesses on Oram’s phone, the statement said.

“Nicolas then stated his intent to kill himself, took possession of a shotgun and camping gear, and fled to the Payson Canyon area,” the statement said.

Officers located Oram up Payson Canyon and placed him under arrest Saturday. The suspect was transported to the Payson Police Station, where he was interviewed about the events.

After being read his Miranda rights, Oram said the victim was at his residence, but after making that statement, he asked for an attorney and all questions were stopped at this time, the statement said.

Oram is being held in Utah County Jail with his bail set at $50,000.
