UTAH COUNTY, Utah, July 30, 2019 (Gephardt Daily) — The Utah County Sheriff’s Search and Rescue team, along with Northfork Fire Department, was called to Bridal Veil Falls in Provo Canyon on Sunday when a 23-year-old man was fatally injured by falling debris.

On Monday, SAR posted on Facebook a brief account of Sunday’s tragic accident, with some words of caution for others who want to enjoy the spectacular beauty of Bridal Veil Falls.

SAR explains in the post that the young man “had been cooling off in the pool immediately at the base of the lower falls when the branch came off the falls and hit him on the head.”

Northfork Fire was first to arrive on scene, and although they performed life-saving measures, the man passed away. SAR then arrived and the scene was secured, awaiting the arrival of the medical examiner.

Here’s the part SAR hopes everyone will keep in mind:

While waiting to carry the victim out via litter team, members saw no less than 5 rocks come off the falls into the pool where the man had died. We urge all that visit the falls to be aware of the potential hazards when hiking to the base or higher at Bridal Veil Falls.

Objects frequently accompany the water coming off the falls so it is best to enjoy the water fall from a distance on either side or from the base. It is impossible to predict when objects will fall and extremely difficult to avoid them if you are standing in the water at the base.

The post concludes, “Our condolences go out to our patient’s family at this time for their tragic loss.”
