UTAH, Jan. 7, 2019 (Gephardt Daily) — Troopers statewide handled a total of 56 crashes by noon Monday due to the storm that hit late Sunday night, the Utah Highway Patrol said, and that total is likely to rise as a winter weather advisory remains in effect.
“Spots of icy and slushy roadway are out there in some unexpected places,” the UHP tweet said. “Please adjust your speed accordingly.”
The tweet also reminded drivers to move off the freeway if a fender bender occurs and to slow down and move over for emergency vehicles.
The National Weather Service in Salt Lake City issued a winter weather advisory for northern Utah through 9 p.m. Monday for the Western Uinta Mountains, Wasatch Mountains south and north of Interstate 80.
“Plan on slick and snow covered road conditions, along with poor visibility and drifting in areas of blowing snow,” said an update from the NWS.
That snow continued into the afternoon and evening in some areas, but storms should taper off later Monday night.
