SUMMIT COUNTY, Utah, Nov. 3, 2019 (Gephardt Daily) — An employee of a Park City wireless phone store was arrested Friday and is facing a charge of computer crimes, a third-degree felony, after a female customer accused him of transferring photos from her phone to his.
According to a probable cause statement filed in 3rd District Court – Silver Summit by a Park City police officer, the woman spoke with an officer on Oct. 24 and reported that she had taken her cellphone to the wireless store at 1700 Park Ave., in Park City, to upgrade to a newer cellphone.
The woman said the employee who assisted her was named Esteban, later identified as Esteban Dejesus Anica, 24.
While she was at the store, the woman had to leave and pick up a child from school, according to the probable cause statement.
Anica told the woman that if the transfer of data was stopped, she would lose the remaining information, so she decided to leave the phone at the store with him, the statement says.
The woman later returned for the new cellphone, and that evening she noticed several messages had been sent from the phone to a phone number she didn’t recognize.
According to the charging document, the messages “contained several nude photos of the complainant from the complainant’s photo roll.”
The woman texted the phone number, the statement says, and “the individual apologized and admitted to sending the photos to himself.” The woman reported that she later received several phone calls, some from the suspect’s number, but didn’t answer the phone.
After several attempts to contact Anica, an officer finally located him Friday at his residence in Kamas. Anica was detained and transported to the police department in Park City to be interviewed.
Anica verified his name, date of birth, address and phone number for the officer; however, after being read his rights, he refused to speak with the officer and requested a lawyer, the charging document states.
Anica was arrested and taken to the Summit County Jail, where he was released to the jail staff. His cellphone was seized and a warrant was requested to search the phone.
