SALT LAKE CITY, Utah, Nov. 15, 2016 (Gephardt Daily) — The Utah Pride Center has launched a new campaign it hopes will provide a visual show of unity for the LGBTQ community in Utah.

It will distribute 25,000 colorful unity bracelets made of flexible, rubber-like material with the printed message: “We See You, We Love You.”

“They only invite a conversation,” said Michael Aguilar, board chairman for the Pride Center. “What we are asking is for people to have that conversation.”

The Utah Pride Center is looking for people willing to distribute the bracelets in public places on Nov. 24. For more detailed information, click here. Donations to the center, to help with the campaign or other center programs, can be made at the same site.
The Utah Pride Center website includes a list of good reasons to wear the unity bracelets:
  1. We wear these bracelets to be a unified force for love, peace, and pride.
  2. We wear these bracelets so homeless LGBTQ+ youth who hide in the warm shadows of the mall during the holidays see us. They see a safe and supportive member of their community.
  3. We wear these bracelets for elderly LGBTQ+ people who’ve lost family over their identity can see us. These seniors will see a safe person they can talk to, laugh with, and embrace.
  4. We wear these bracelets in solidarity as a response to the recent presidential election. While we do not know what the future holds for our community, we do know that we are stronger when we stand together.
  5. We wear these bracelets because we are one beautiful and diverse community and there is a flame which lives inside all of us — a burning passion for unity and equality.
