ERWIN, Tennessee, Oct. 8, 2024 (Gephardt Daily) — Utah Task Force 1, made up of Utah firefighters and emergency personnel, has finished its deployment to Tennessee to help after Hurricane Helene, and is now packing up for the trip to Florida.

Hurricane Milton is expected to make landfall on Florida’s west coast on Wednesday. It’s currently a category 4 storm, just short of being a category 5.

“As we wrap up another day, our team focuses on cleaning and decontaminating our equipment at the Base of Operations (BoO) to remain prepared for our next tasks, Utah Task Force 1 wrote Monday from Tennessee in a post shared by Unified Fire.

“Each day begins with a morning briefing, followed by a planning meeting to discuss our assignments for the next operational period.

“We have now been deployed for 10 days, and the devastation in the areas we’ve searched is immense. Conditions are hazardous and perilous, but we have been honored to work alongside local, state, and federal partners to support Tennessee during this critical time.

“Despite the challenges, our team remains in good spirits and is incredibly grateful for the community’s support, as well as the encouragement from our families and friends back home in Utah. Thank you for standing with us!

“Our work in Erwin is completed, and we will now be moving South to assist the state of Florida for Hurricane Milton.”

Gephardt Daily will share future information shared by the Task Force.
