HYRUM, UTAH – October 7, 2015 (Gephardt Daily) – A Utah teen was selected to be honored at the 2015 Caring Award Ceremony later this month in Tennessee for her outstanding work in bridging gaps between the elderly and the youth.
In a press release issued by the Caring Institute, co-founders Senators Bob Dole and Tom Daschle announced Tuesday the 2015 Caring Award honorees and Hyrum resident Emilee Hamilton, 18, will be recognized for her selfless service to those in need.
Hamilton’s love and passion for the elderly inspired her to start ‘Utah YOUth Connect’, which brings seniors and middle school students together. Hamilton has raised nearly $9,000 and gathered the support of 15,000 kids who are involved in visiting retirement homes and showing seniors that someone really cares.
Hamilton is among four other teens, five adults and one International Caring Award recipient who will be recognized and inducted into the Caring Hall of Fame at the end of October.
All of the recipients will be awarded at the ceremony in Tennessee with the exception of the International Caring Award that will honor Pope Francis. The Pope will receive his award in Rome.
The Caring Institute was founded in 1985 by Val J. Halamandaris after a meeting with Mother Teresa, who told him there was a poverty of the spirit in the developed world that was much worse than the poverty of the body seen in the developing world. When she directed him to do something about it, he founded an awards program that identifies those who give back to society in outstanding ways and holds them up as role models for all.
