Developing: Utah wildfire triples in size near Mt. Nebo Loop

JUAB COUNTY, Utah, Sept. 13, 2018 (Gephardt Daily) — Firefighters in Juab County are working to contain a lightning sparked wildfire that has tripled in size in last 24 hours.

The Pole Creek Fire started Sept. 6th in the Mt. Nebo Loop area.

As of Wednesday morning the blaze had burned about 400 acres, but the fire grew dramatically throughout the day and overnight expanding to more than 1,500 acres by early Thursday when it combined with the Bald Mountain Fire which started back on August 24th.

Fire managers say that due to the fire’s complexity the Northern Utah Interagency Type 3 Incident Management Team has been called in to manage the fire which was threatening a nearby girl scout facility.

A Utah County Sheriff Deputy who was at the scene of the fire late Wednesday night told Gephardt Daily there was growing concern for the fate of missing hiker who had not returned home. The deputy said the man’s vehicle was located but the hiker had yet to be found.

According to the U.S Forest Service a 135 personnel have been assigned to the fire including one Hotshot crew, three Type 2 hand crews, and one engine.

Gephardt Daily has a crew on the scene and will update the story as more information becomes available.
