AMERICAN FORK, UTAH – September 10, 2015 (Gephardt Daily) – The rescue of a Highland, Utah woman, trapped inside her car for nearly two days after driving off a ravine in American Fork Canyon, is being called nothing short of a miracle.

The Utah County Sheriff’s office says Heather Blackwell, 29, crashed through a guardrail on State Route 92 near the Pine Hollow Trailhead Wednesday, careening several hundred feet down the mountainside into a thick grove of trees.

Deputies say Blackwell was severely injured and unable to climb out of her car which was completely hidden by the heavy vegetation. She would remain there, undetected, for more than a day.

Thursday afternoon a man and woman taking photos at the bottom of the ravine heard a cry for help and found Blackwell inside her car. The man stayed with Blackwell and administered first aid while the woman hiked to Mutual Dell and called for help.

First responders were able to stabilize Blackwell at the scene of the accident.

She was flown by LifeFlight to Utah Valley Regional Medical Center where she is being treated for broken bones and other injuries, none of which are believed to be life threatening.

Thursday night she remained in serious, but stable condition.
