UTV rolls, burns at Sand Hollow; 1 person injured

HURRICANE, Utah, Jan. 4, 2025 (Gephardt Daily) — Hurricane Valley Fire crews were dispatched to a vehicle fire Friday afternoon, and found a utility task vehicle (UTV) that had rolled and subsequently caught fire.

Crews were dispatched at 1:20 p.m. to the Sand Dunes staging area, a statement from Hurricane Valley Fire & Rescue says.

“Before our crews arrived, an individual associated with the same party quickly intervened, helping to safely remove the two occupants from the vehicle. Both occupants were wearing helmets and seatbelts at the time of the incident.

“One occupant sustained burns to their face and hands, but declined further medical treatment at the scene. They opted to self-transport to the hospital.”

Crews extinguished the UTV fire.

“The cause of the fire is currently under investigation.

“We commend the quick actions of the bystander who assisted the occupants, as well as the diligence of our fire crews in responding to the situation. E42, M41, M46, and BC43 all responded to this incident as well as the Utah State Park Rangers.”
