CEDAR CITY, Utah, Jan. 15, 2016 (Gephardt Daily) — Cedar City police plan to arrest a man they said stole an idling car from outside a convenience store, led police on a highway chase, crossed into oncoming traffic, then crashed through a barbed wire fence and into a flood control tunnel.

The incident began at 6:30 a.m. Friday and ended after Alex Patton, 27, crashed the vehicle and was apprehended, according to the Cedar City Police Department.

Patton will be charged after he gets out of the Cedar City Hospital after treatment for injuries sustained in the accident and for what is believed to be significant drug impairment, according to a news release from the CCPD.

“After Patton is released from the hospital, he will be facing several charges to include theft of an automobile, reckless endangerment and evading the police,” the statement said.
