VERNAL, Utah, Aug. 27, 2024 (Gephardt Daily) — One teen is dead and a second is hospitalized with critical injuries after their car drifted off State Route 40, collided with a metal barrier, and rolled down an embankment.
Both were ejected from the vehicle.
The incident happened at about 12:17 p.m. Tuesday near milepost 136.
“A 19-year-old male driver suffered fatal injuries at the scene,” a Utah Highway Patrol statement says. “The 18-year-old female passenger was transported by ambulance to a nearby hospital in critical condition.
“Witnesses reported observing the vehicle traveling at a high rate of speed prior to the crash. The incident is currently under investigation.”
