SALT LAKE CITY, Utah, Aug. 23, 2023 (Gephardt Daily) — Salt Lake City police are investigating a Tuesday night shooting on the city’s northwest side.
According to a press release from the SLCPD Public Relations unit, a 26-year-old man suffered “serious but non-life-threatening injuries.” Police responded to the area of 984 N. Poinsettia Drive, in the city’s Rose Park neighborhood, after a call came to dispatch at about 9:25 p.m.
“Officers arrived and found the man with a gunshot wound,” says a statement issued by the SLCPD PR department. “Officers provided first aid until paramedics took over. Gold Cross Ambulance and the Salt Lake City Fire Department took the man to the hospital in serious, but stable condition. His injuries are not life-threatening.
“Despite a large search, that included the SLCPD K-9 unit and Pioneer Bike Squad, the suspect left the area. Officers believe the suspect and victim got into an argument, possibly over personal property, prior to the shooting.”
According to police radio traffic, an early call to emergency dispatchers indicated as many as five gunshots had been fired. Another caller then reported a friend had been shot in the leg.
The SLCPD PR statement says suspect information is not currently being released, but the shooting appears to be an isolated incident and not an ongoing threat to the general public.
“Detectives are continuing to conduct follow-up on this case and are asking the person involved to turn themselves in.”
