WEST VALLEY CITY, Utah, Dec. 16, 2016 (Gephardt Daily) — A brief police pursuit late Thursday night led to the arrest of a wanted fugitive who is now facing numerous new charges.

West Valley City Police Lt. Amy Maurer told Gephardt Daily that an officer was on routine patrol when he noticed a suspicious vehicle in the area of 2800 West and 3100 South and decided to run the plates.

The report came back that the car was stolen out of Murray, Maurer said, and it was likely that a wanted individual was in it.

More officers were called and police followed the vehicle, which came up Redwood Road and fled onto the freeway into the Salt Lake City area in an attempt to evade police.

As he approached Salt Lake International Airport, the driver ran into a fence. He then abandoned the car and continued to flee on foot.

Police quickly set up a containment area and K-9 units were brought in to search for the suspect.

After a brief search, Anthony Alvarado, 24, was located and taken into custody. Alvarado was wanted for aggravated assault, and is now facing numerous other charges, including fleeing and damage to the stolen vehicle and the fence he plowed into.

Maurer said the various police agencies frequently work together, and officers from West Valley City, Salt Lake City Police Department and the gang unit coordinated the containment effort and Alvarado’s apprehension.
