HEBER CITY, Utah, Feb. 22, 2018 (Gephardt Daily) — A Wasatch High School student has been taken into custody after posting threats of gun violence at the school on social media.

According to a statement by the Heber City Police Department, the teen was arrested after another student noticed the online threat Wednesday night and reported it to police.

The threat reportedly claimed the violence would take place the following school day.

Investigators “immediately made contact with the suspect,” according the police statement.

“The suspect, also a student at WHS, was cooperative with the investigation and was taken into custody. Local law enforcement believes there is no remaining threat to student safety,” the statement said.

The Heber City PD statement also praised the Wasatch High student who notified police.

“We appreciate the quick action of the student who saw the post and followed the concept ‘if you see something, say something,’ the statement said.

The Heber City Police Department also said “additional law enforcement officers will be present at all schools throughout the school day” while expressing gratitude for the “continued support and the joint effort and cooperation between Wasatch County District, Heber City Police Department and the Wasatch County Sheriff’s Office.”

The name of student who made the threats has not been released due to his age.

Gephardt Daily is following the story and will provide an update once more information becomes available.
