SANDY, Utah, Sept. 29, 2016 (Gephardt Daily) — A large water main break in Sandy has closed a main road, and drivers are being asked to find alternate routes to local schools and residences Thursday afternoon.

Sandy City posted on Facebook at 2 p.m. that the water main break is near the corner of 11400 South and 1000 East.

The post said that 1000 East is closed from 11400 South to Sunburn Lane in order to fix the water main break.

Sandy City’s post said crews are working to fix the break as quickly as possible, but the closure will likely last the rest of Thursday.

Residents whose children attend either Alta High School or Indian Hills Middle School, are being asked to find an alternate route to and from the schools. Additionally, residents who live in the area are also being advised to find alternate routes home.

Sandy City updated later Thursday afternoon that the intersection at 11400 S. and 1000 East will reopen to restricted traffic flow by 9 p.m. Thursday.

The intersection will have restricted traffic flow for the next week-and-a-half as crews work to reconstruct the road and repair damages.

Drivers are being advised to avoid this intersection completely until the repairs are made.
