Weber County inmate dies in custody

OGDEN, Utah, June 13, 2019 (Gephardt Daily) — An inmate at the Weber County Jail died Wednesday while in custody.

Eric Arthur Gaven, 39, was in the booking area when he experienced a medical episode, a statement from the Weber County Sheriff’s Office says.

“Mr. Gavin was transported to the hospital where he was pronounced deceased. Jail custody staff, jail medical staff, and emergency medical staff worked together in life-saving efforts.”

Gavin’s booking date was listed as Wednesday, the same day he died. He was booked for violation of parole/probation. He had been found guilty of DUI and traffic offenses in several cases over the past years.

“This incident is currently under investigation, additional details will be available at the conclusion of the investigation,” the WCSO statement says. “The Sheriff’s Office offers condolences to the family in this difficult time.”
