OGDEN, Utah, June 6, 2018 (Gephardt Daily) — A Weber County Jail inmate passed away Monday after an attempted suicide four days earlier.

The Weber County Sheriff’s Office has identified the deceased as 44-year-old Casey James Berensen.

Berensen was found hanging 13 minutes after he had last been checked on at the correctional facility, on 12th Street, according to a statement from the Sheriff’s Office.

“At the time he was checked on, he did not appear to be in crisis, or indicate that he was in any need of assistance,” the statement said.

“When it was discovered that he hanged himself, medical personnel was immediately notified and rescue attempts were initiated. No pulse was existent, and he was not breathing.”

Emergency medical services responded minutes later, and lifesaving measures were attempted.

“Due to the rescue efforts by staff a pulse was regained, and he was transported to the hospital by ambulance. He succumbed to injuries incurred from this incident on June 4, 2018.

“This incident is currently under investigation, and more details will be available at the conclusion of that investigation.”

  1. As a former inmate at Weber county jail I can tell you first hand they have the worst medical staff out if all the institutions I’ve been in in over a 25 year stretch… Unless you have money and can pay for services right then you’re screwed…
