Weber County law enforcement searching for suspect after shots fired in Washington Terrace

WASHINGTON TERRACE, Utah, Aug. 15, 2019 (Gephardt Daily) — Officials are searching for a suspect after shots were fired at a newspaper carrier in Washington Terrace Wednesday morning.

Dispatch received several 911 calls at approximately 5:30 a.m. regarding shots fired in the area of 500 W. 5000 South, said a news release from Weber County Sheriff’s Office Lt. Cortney Ryan. One caller reported seeing a dark colored four-door sedan leaving the area of where the shots were heard.

“When deputies arrived, they found several empty shell casings in the roadway,” the news release said. “They were also able to locate the victim. It was found that the victim was a newspaper carrier, who was delivering newspapers in the area. The suspect, a young male, asked what the newspaper carrier was doing in the area. The suspect did not like the carrier’s answer and brandished a firearm.”

The newspaper carrier started to drive away, when the suspect fired several rounds into the ground as the car drove away, the then fled the scene.

No one was hit by any rounds, however the carrier’s vehicle was damaged.

Weber County Sheriff’s Office investigators are investigating the case.

“A canvass of the surrounding area was conducted and some information was gathered,” the news release said. “Investigators will continue to follow up on leads. At this time, we do not know the motive for the shooting.”
