WEBER COUNTY, Utah, July 5, 2019 (Gephardt Daily) — Weber Fire District crews responded to three “single-tree lightning strike” fires on Friday.

Weber Fire District Capt. Rick Cooper said two of the fires were on Forest Service land, one in Weber Canyon and another along Highway 39.

The fire on Highway 39 was extinguished Friday, Cooper said, and the one in Weber Canyon will probably be completely suppressed on Saturday.

A third lightning strike occurred in the Sunridge area near La Plata later on Friday.

“It’s about one-quarter acre. Crews were on it tonight and will be back again in the morning,” Cooper said.

He added, “We have a bumper crop of grass this year, so we’re asking everyone to be especially cautious and not spark any fires.”
