OGDEN, Utah, June 1, 2021 (Gephardt Daily) — Weber Fire District officials explained the smoke near Ogden’s 29th Street Trailhead Tuesday afternoon.

“We’ve received multiple calls for the smoke near the 29th Street Trailhead,” said a tweet from the fire district at approximately 5 p.m. “Weber and Forest Service crews are on scene. The smoke is from a tree that was struck by lightning a week ago and has started smoldering.”

Lightning strikes can smolder for two or more weeks before igniting, the tweet said.

“There may be a lot of smoke over the next couple of days, but crews estimate having containment tonight around 8 p.m.,” the tweet said. “Weber E464 and B613 will be monitoring it over the next couple days.”
