WELLSVILLE, Utah, April 29, 2019 (Gephardt Daily) — A Wellsville man has been arrested after the alleged sexual abuse of two victims that occurred in 1989.

A probable cause statement from the First District Court of Logan said Jared Edwin Martindale, 44, was arrested Thursday and is facing charges of rape of a child, a first-degree felony; object rape of a child, a first-degree felony; and two counts of sexual abuse of a child, a second-degree felony.

On April 14, the Logan City Police Department received the report of a sexual assault that allegedly occurred on or around July 1, 1989.

“I met with the victim #1 who met with me in a recorded interview room,” the arresting officer wrote. “In the interview victim #1 disclosed that on or around the summer of 1989, Jared Martindale had several sexual encounters with her. Victim #1 was 8-9 years of age at the time and Martindale was 14-15 years old.”

During the interview the victim disclosed “very clear details of several sexual incidents.”

The victim said that during one of the incidents, Martindale kissed her and fondled over her underwear in the area of her private parts.

On a different occasion Martindale came to the victim’s home and found that she was home alone, she said. He took her into the bathroom, where he allegedly removed both of their clothing. He then put the victim and himself in the shower, where he allegedly touched her inappropriately, she said.

Interviews were conducted of other witness who reported inappropriate activity between the first victim and Martindale.

During interviews, another female victim reported when she was 10 or 11 years old that she also had her pants removed in bed and was touched inappropriately. She did not see who the alleged perpetrator was that night.

Communication occurred between Martindale and the first victim, the statement said.

“Martindale admitted to victim #1 that he had ‘wandering hands’ while with her,” the statement said. “Martindale apologized numerous times during the call for hurting victim #1.”

During the call, he said that he wasn’t saying some of the more severe abuse didn’t happen, “he just didn’t remember it.”

An interview was conducted with Martindale where he admitted to having “wandering hands” and touching the two victims over their clothing. Martindale also agreed that this happened in homes in the Logan area when he was 13 or 14 years old.

At the time of the arrest, Martindale was on parole for felony charges. He was also arrested on misdemeanor charges of DUI and threats on April 20. A Utah Department of Corrections Parole Warrant was approved and he is currently being held on that warrant pending transportation to prison.
