WEST JORDAN, Utah, Oct. 8, 2018 (Gephardt Daily) — Police have identified a 28-year-old woman killed Monday morning after the SUV she was driving plunged into a pit at a construction site in West Jordan.

The deceased is Gina Fierro-Vilcampo, West Jordan Police Department tweeted Monday afternoon.

Sgt. Dan Roberts, public information officer for WJPD, told Gephardt Daily a white SUV was traveling along New Bingham Highway (9400 South) in the area of 6400 West at approximately 6:45 a.m.

“It apparently had an interaction with another vehicle, whether they were cut off or they were passing each other we’re not sure,” Roberts said. “A 28-year-old female driving the SUV left the roadway, rolled the vehicle, and ended up in a construction pit of some sort.”

The woman was declared deceased on scene.

Roberts said the construction pit is some 15 to 20 feet deep, off to the side of the road.

He said the other driver stayed at the scene as well as numerous witnesses, so investigators are now piecing together exactly what occurred.

Roberts said it’s too early to know the sequence of events that led up to the incident, or whether there were any contributing factors such as fatigue or impairment.

New Bingham Highway was closed in the area of the crash, but has since reopened.

Gephardt Daily has a crew on scene and will have more on this developing story as information is made available.
